Gert Kootstra is an associate professor at Wageningen University and Research working on computer vision, robotics and AI with applications in agriculture, livestock and fisheries. The research in his group revolves around developing and studying methods to allow robotic systems to better deal with challenges that robots face in complex agricultural environments, notably the challenges of variation and incomplete information.
Gert received his PhD in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands in 2009. From 2009-2012, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2012, he moved to Wageningen Research doing applied research on the use of computer vision in agriculture. Since 2017, he has been working at Wageningen University in the Agricultural Biosystems Engineering group.
